چکیده

" Kriging " (after the South African mining engineer Danie Krige) is a term used for a family of methods for minimum error variance estimation. Consider a linear estimatê z 0 = ˆ z(r 0) at a location r 0 based on N measurements z = [z(r 1),. .. , z(r N)] T = [z 1 ,. .. , z N ] T ˆ z 0 = w 0 + N i=1 w i z i = w 0 + w T z, (1) where w i are the weights applied to z i. We consider z i as particular realisations of random variables Z i , Z = [Z(r 1),. .. , Z(r N)] T = [Z 1 ,. .. , Z N ] T. We think of Z(r) as consisting of a mean and a residual Z(r) = µ(r) + (r) with a constant variance σ 2. E{} = 0. For the linear estimator we getˆZ 0 = w 0 + w T Z.

Large-scale Versus Small-scale Variation Decomposition, Followed by Kriging Based on a Relative Variogram, in Presence of a Non-stationary Residual Variance

We propose here an interpolation method based on a decomposition of the data in largeand small-scale variation. This decomposition was performed using a two-way directional decomposition, similar to the decomposition used by Cressie in his median-polish kriging (1993), though we applied decomposition by means instead of medians. We considered the effects isolated by the decomposition as associa...

Spatiotemporal Modeling of Ozone Levels in Quebec (Canada): A Comparison of Kriging, Land-Use Regression (LUR), and Combined Bayesian Maximum Entropy–LUR Approaches

BACKGROUND Ambient air ozone (O3) is a pulmonary irritant that has been associated with respiratory health effects including increased lung inflammation and permeability, airway hyperreactivity, respiratory symptoms, and decreased lung function. Estimation of O3 exposure is a complex task because the pollutant exhibits complex spatiotemporal patterns. To refine the quality of exposure estimatio...

Exploration of Metamodeling Sampling Criteria for Constrained Global Optimization

The use of surrogate models or metamodeling has lead to new areas of research in simulation-based design optimization. Metamodeling approaches have advantages over traditional techniques when dealing with the noisy responses and=or high computational cost characteristic of many computer simulations. This paper focuses on a particular algorithm, Efficient Global Optimization (EGO) that uses krig...

Spatial Interpolation for Robotic Sampling: Uncertainty with Two Models of Variance

Several important forms of robotic environmental monitoring involve estimating a spatial field from comparatively few measurements. A number of researchers use linear least squares estimation techniques, frequently either the geostatistical Kriging framework or a Gaussian Process regression formulation, that provide estimates of quantities of interest at unmeasured locations. These methods enab...

Constructing and evaluating contextual indices using GIS: a case of primary school performance tables

School performance tables emphasising aggregate examination scores have become an enduring feature of the educational landscape. These tables are problematic, even flawed, as a guide, given the recognised broad link between pupil performance and the social and economic environment in which they live. There is continued interest in being able to contextualise school examination scores so as bett...
